Globally Recognized Leader on Global Energy Issues and Climate Change Will Bring Nearly Four Decades of Experience Across Business, Government and Energy Policy to Vision Ridge

Will Work Closely with Existing Leadership to Strategically Scale the Vision Ridge Platform

BOULDER, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Vision Ridge Partners, a sustainable real assets investor, today announced that Jules Kortenhorst, former Chief Executive Officer of RMI, will join the Firm as a Partner, effective January 9, 2023. Mr. Kortenhorst will focus on continuing to scale and strengthen Vision Ridge’s asset management and governance capabilities in support of its portfolio. He will also work with existing Firm leadership to further enhance Vision Ridge’s strategy, culture, and operations, as well as deepen the Firm’s work on the energy transition and climate change.

A globally recognized leader on energy issues and climate change, Mr. Kortenhorst brings nearly four decades of business, government, entrepreneurial, for-profit and non-profit leadership experience to Vision Ridge. During his tenure as CEO of RMI, Mr. Kortenhorst grew the non-partisan, non-profit organization from 50 to 600 professionals worldwide and significantly scaled its contribution to accelerating the energy transition. He has also served on multiple boards, where he has worked with management teams to successfully overcome complex situations and achieve positive financial and impact-driven results.

“Jules has unparalleled experience driving value-creating, transformational change across the energy sector as well as deep strategic planning and problem-solving skills. We are thrilled to welcome an executive of his caliber to the Vision Ridge team as we seek to continue capitalizing on the global transition to sustainability,” said Reuben Munger, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Vision Ridge. “We have known Jules well for over a decade, share a mutual respect and passion for supporting innovative solutions to combat climate change, and have collaborated closely on meaningful projects to aid that cause. I am confident that his deep industry relationships, more than 15 years serving in global energy leadership roles, and commitment to decarbonizing the planet will greatly benefit Vision Ridge, our portfolio companies, and our investors as we continue growing our Firm.”

“Our planet is in the decisive decade for what I believe to be the biggest issue facing humanity – climate change – and now is the critical time when we must invest at scale in the lower cost, post-carbon businesses of the future,” added Mr. Kortenhorst. “As I embark on the next phase of my career with my life’s mission of addressing climate change in mind, I am thrilled to join Vision Ridge, which I believe, through its investments in sustainable real assets, is a pioneer for investors who support this future. I look forward to working alongside a talented team of likeminded individuals and leveraging my highly translatable skills to help the Firm and its portfolio companies as the world transitions to a greater, more vibrant, zero carbon economy.”

Prior to joining RMI in 2013, Mr. Kortenhorst served as the founding CEO of the European Climate Foundation, the largest philanthropic organization dedicated to policy development and advocacy on climate change in Europe. Earlier in his career, he served in the Dutch Parliament, was the CEO for International Operations of ClientLogic Corporation, and before that worked for nearly ten years in various roles at Royal Dutch/Shell, including as managing director of Shell Bulgaria. He began his career at McKinsey & Co.

Mr. Kortenhorst is a founding member of the global Energy Transitions Commission, a member of Shell’s New Energy Advisory Board, and a non-executive board member of MiQ.org and the Energy Web Foundation. Mr. Kortenhorst earned a master’s in economics from Erasmus University in the Netherlands and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar. He is married and has four children.

Mr. Kortenhorst’s appointment follows other notable investment and operational hires Vision Ridge has made over the last year, including Paul Luce as Managing Director, Christina Scalzo as Principal, Matthew Fox as Chief Legal Officer and Administrative Officer, Craig Bodzinger as Fund Controller and Kara Hagerty as Director of Compliance.
