Scott Fischer Joins DLA Piper’s Insurance Sector in New York

DLA Piper announced today that Scott Fischer has joined the firm’s Insurance sector as a partner based in New York and as head of the US Insurance Regulatory practice.

Fischer focuses on insurance sector regulatory and restructuring matters. He previously served as Executive Deputy Superintendent for Insurance at the New York State Department of Financial Services, where he led several hundred employees in supervising 1,700 insurers operating in New York with assets exceeding US$4 trillion. Earlier in his career, Fischer was Special Deputy Superintendent at the New York Liquidation Bureau, overseeing the liquidation of dozens of insolvent insurers and managing New York’s property/casualty guaranty funds.

He will play a pivotal role in supporting DLA Piper’s investigations, enforcement, compliance, restructuring, disputes, and mergers, acquisitions and transactions capabilities in this important industry sector,” said Michael P. Murphy, global co-chair of DLA Piper’s Insurance sector.

Fischer joins from Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. He received his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Dickinson College.
