The Meridian Group Launches New Construction Arm

TMG forms the Meridian Construction Group to better support its existing portfolio and continue to create value for its investors

Continuing its growth into new industry segments, The Meridian Group (TMG) has launched a new construction arm to better support its existing portfolio and pipeline, as well as provide its expertise to other owners and developers.

The Meridian Construction Group (MCG) will build premier projects, with a focus on thoughtful and innovative tenant fit outs and amenity spaces. As the company expands its footprint into new markets and industry segments, MCG will leverage its extensive expertise as an owner/operator and use a collaborative approach to general contracting.

“We’re excited to introduce the Meridian Construction Group as we grow the business to improve our competitive advantage in the market and bring even more value to our investors,” said Mark King, President and COO of TMG. “With best-in-class leadership, Meridian Construction Group will continue TMG’s long record of developing state-of-the-art projects of unmatched quality.”

The MCG leadership team brings an average of more than 20 years’ experience in the construction industry. It is led by Jason Phillips, who has worked in the design and construction industry in the Washington area for over two decades and has worked on some of the most complex and notable developments in the area.

“We believe MCG can offer something truly unique to our customers,” said Phillips, President of MCG. “Because we’ve evolved out of a development company, as a general contractor we have the ability to really understand and value owner, investor and tenant concerns at every stage of a construction project — from Notice-to-Proceed (NTP) to Certificate-of-Occupancy (CofO) and everywhere in between. It’s a unique perspective to general contracting that we’re excited to share with the market.”

MCG currently has several office renovation and spec-suite projects under construction. Additionally, MCG is focused on ground-up development projects including office, multifamily, residential and industrial warehouse, some of which are expected to break ground in 2023.

TMG has long been known for its premier office, retail, hotel and mixed-use projects around the DC area, including The Boro, an award-winning mixed-use development in Tysons, Va. The firm recently diversified that strategy when it launched two industrial projects:

  • TMG is teaming up with Wickshire Industrial to build One Logistics Park, a premier development featuring 2.7 million square feet (SF) of Class A industrial space in Winchester, Va.
  • MCG is working with ARCO Design/Build Industrial to construct the I-70 Gateway Industrial Warehouse project in Hagerstown, Md.

MCG is now exploring opportunities for additional strategic partnerships as it enters new markets and expands its general contracting services, Philips said.
