The ability to realize one’s full potential – without limitation – is critical in today’s world. That is why BayCoast Bank is pleased to announce a significant grant to support the South Coast LGBTQ+ Network (The Network) and its development of a new Community Center in downtown New Bedford, Massachusetts.
The spacious new Community Center, located at 60 Eighth Street, will support the thriving LGBTQ+ community on Massachusetts’ South Coast, expanding important programs and services for every person across all age groups. The new location spans three floors and is designed to be a functional gathering area for activities that will enhance the lives of our local LGBTQ+ community.
The development of The Network’s new Community Center is the culmination of a monumental goal – to strengthen the organization’s commitment to the most vulnerable in the LGBTQ+ community, while bringing all people together in a welcoming space that promotes peace, understanding and unity.
“Given the extreme challenges the LGBTQ+ community faces today, our goal to create a safe, inclusive, and permanent space where LGBTQ+ individuals can thrive in the South Coast is more important than ever,” said Andy Pollock, President of The South Coast LGBTQ+ Network. “With the generous support of BayCoast Bank, we are closer to seeing a dream come true.”
The new Community Center will offer mental health and wellness programs as well as professional development and financial literacy training for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Educational services relating to diversity, equality and inclusion will also be offered for local organizations in an effort to promote respect and awareness.

The historic building that was purchased to house The Network’s new LGBTQ+ Community Center was originally constructed in 1908 and is currently undergoing major renovations to become a contemporary, better-equipped space. Those renovations are expected to be completed in 2023.
