The Meridian Group Named Developer of the Year

The real estate investment and development firm was honored as the best in the DC metro area by the Commercial Real Estate Brokerage Association

The Meridian Group has been named the Developer of the Year by the Commercial Real Estate Brokerage Association (CREBA).

The Meridian Group earned the prestigious Best in Industry award for its leadership in innovative building design, creative deal-making and dynamic placemaking throughout the metropolitan DC area. CREBA honored the firm for its shrewd acquisitions, premier developments and farsighted strategies that brought tremendous success throughout 2021, widely regarded as one of the most challenging years the commercial real estate industry has ever experienced.

“We are very thankful to CREBA for honoring our leadership and innovation in commercial real estate,” said Katie Yanushonis, Senior Vice President of Leasing for The Meridian Group. “All of us at The Meridian Group are committed to reimagining public spaces and providing the best in safe, amenity-rich buildings across the DC metropolitan area.”

The Meridian Group, a real estate investment and development firm based in Bethesda, Md., was presented with the honor last week during the CREBA Awards ceremony in Washington. Among Meridian’s notable accomplishments in 2021:

  • Signing two of the largest private sector leases in downtown DC: the American Bankers Association (87,000 square feet) and PCORI (96,000 square feet).
  • Bringing Meridian’s iconic trophy building, Boro Tower, to almost 90% leased through signed leases and signed LOI’s.
  • Delivering 1333 New Hampshire Avenue, NW on time and on budget and 75% pre-leased during one of the most competitive leasing environments for Class A buildings ever in DC.
  • Creating a portfolio-wide building app for tenants that makes life simpler, easier and safer, allowing workers to do everything from entering the parking garage to reserving equipment at the fitness center — all seamlessly from their mobile device.  The app also features density readers to help manage the use of amenities and encourages tenant engagement by highlighting monthly virtual events and programs.
  • Continuing to take strong steps to protect the health and well-being of tenants and residents. As part of a broader initiative to provide safer, healthier spaces for all tenants in its buildings, The Meridian Group pursued and is now officially Certified with Distinction for the Fitwel Viral Response Module. Earning an unprecedented score of 99.12%, Meridian is one of the first companies in the nation to receive this high rating from the Center for Active Design (CfAD).
  • Receiving Core & Shell Well Certification at 1901 L Street — the first commercial office building in DC to receive such distinction and, to-date, the only commercial building to have achieved this certification.

“We are pleased to be recognized for our new initiatives and innovations during these extraordinary times,” Yanushonis said. “We will continue to work hard to create the most outstanding places to live, work, shop and dine in the DC area.”
