Three of Rock’s Biggest Names Come to The Parker In June

It’s summer so get ready to rock as YngwieMalmsteen, Ann Wilson, Joe Jackson and Rupi Kaur bring their tours to The Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker this June.

For the past three decades, Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen has dominated the world of solo guitar. He now brings his skills to The Parker on Saturday, June 4 at 7 p.m. At barely 20 years old, he exploded onto the music scene with his jaw-dropping technique flawlessly delivered at mind-boggling levels of speed and clarity and established the style now referred to as neo-classical metal. Some 35 years and 25 million album sales later, Malmsteen is considered to be one of the best guitar shredders ever and shows no sign of slowing down. In 2019, he released his first blues LP, Blue Lighting, which featured dazzling versions of blue-rock classics including “Purple Haze,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “Smoke on the Water.” In 2021, Malmsteen released the full-length “Parabellum.”This “Parabellum” tour features special guests Kurt Deimer and Alpha Venturi. Ann Wilson, the lead singer and songwriter of the groundbreaking rock band Heartandconsidered one of the greatest voices in the history of rock ‘n’ roll, comes to The Parker on Friday, June 17 at 8 p.m.Led by Wilson’s extraordinary vocal power, Heart has thrilled audiences for more than four decades. Heart is the eight-times platinum, 35 million-plus selling Rock and Roll Hall of Fame trailblazers that formed in 1973. As a lead singer of the first female-fronted superstar hard rock band, Wilson blazed a trail for generations of women to come, while her songs have become part of the very fabric of popular culture including “Barracuda,” “Crazy On You,” “Straight On,” “Magic Man.”The concert is presented by the Broward Center and AEG Presents and tickets are $39.50-$69.50.

With his pop sophistication and scrappy new wave, Joe Jackson shows his talents in the“Sing, You Sinners!” tour with a stop at The Parker on Wednesday, June 22 at 8 p.m.Presented by the Broward Center and AEG Presents, this musical chameleon always makes a statement on his albums by combining influences such as punk, jazz, swing, pop, rock and new wave with his wry, surreal and wickedly humorous lyrics. Jackson hit the charts with “Is She Really Going Out With Him” and “Steppin’ Out.” His eclectic live concert features band members Graham Maby (bass, vocals), Teddy Kumpel (guitar, vocals) and Doug Yowell (drums, vocals, electronics). Tickets are $37.50-$87.50.

Poet, artist and performer Rupi Kaur comes to The Parker on Tuesday, June 28 at 8 p.m. in an event presented by The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents. Rupiwrote, illustrated and self-published her first poetry collection, milk and honey, when she was a 21-year-old university student. Next came its artistic sibling, the sun and her flowers. These collections have sold over eight million copies and have been translated into over 42 languages. Her most recent book, home body, debuted atno. 1 on bestsellers lists across the world. In 2021, she executive produced and starred in her debut film, Rupi Kaur Live, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Her work touches on love, loss, trauma, healing, femininity and migration. She feels most at home when creating art or performing her poetry on stage. Tickets start at $39.
