Broward Center Ushers in Summer with Sizzling Shows in June

Summer is sizzling at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts this June with musicals featuring the greatest hits from Carole King and the The Go-Go’s as well as thrilling opportunities to enjoy your favorite TV shows and internet stars live.

Blippi The Musical brings the energetic and loveable character Blippi off the screen and onto the stage of the Au-Rene Theater on Wednesday, June 1 at 6 p.m. with a world-class production, audience engagement and amazing music. A plane, tractor, fire truck and train are just some of the many discoveries families will make together as they dance, sing and meet amazing new friends live on stage with this one-of-a-kind show that features flashing lights, haze (fog) and confetti. Children ages of 2 to 7 throughout the world have quickly taken a liking to Blippi’s charismatic personality and innovative teaching lessons.Tickets are $19.50-$69.50 with Spirit Club Level tickets at $40 and $10 lap seats for children 12 months and younger. A Blippi meet and greet experience is available for an additional $50.

Slow Burn Theatre Company’s acclaimed season culminates with Head Over Heels in the Amaturo Theater from Friday, June 10 through Sunday, June 26. This bold new musical comedy from the visionaries that rocked Broadway with Hedwig and the Angry InchAvenue Q and Spring Awakening, is a laugh-out-loud love story featuring the music of the iconic 1980s all-female rock band The Go-Go’s with their hit songs, “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” and Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth” and “Mad About You.” In this modern musical fairy tale where once-upon-a-time is right now, a royal family sets out on a journey to save their beloved kingdom from extinction in what New York Magazine called “a clever, delightful, bubbly, exuberant party!” ​The season is presented by American National Bank, South Florida’s premier community bank. Performance times vary and tickets are $49-$65. Students and teachers can access $25 tickets with their credentials.

The Broward Center and Outback Presents Kurtis Conner live at the Au-ReneTheater on Saturday, June 11 at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Sit back and enjoy a fun-filled night of stand-up comedy from

YouTuber, podcaster, country music artist and mayor Kurtis Conner. To paraphrase his catchphase, “Please be nice to him – it’s the law!” This performance is not recommended for children under 12 years old. Tickets are $40-$75 with Spirit Club Level tickets at $115.

The current Bank of America: Broadway in Fort Lauderdale season, presented by Broadway Across America, Florida Theatrical Association and Broward Center, concludes with Beautiful, the Carole King Musical in the Au-Rene Theater from Friday, June 17through Sunday, June 19. The musical tells the inspiring true story of Carole King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation. The performance will feature a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin, Carole King, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, including “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and “You’ve Got A Friend.”Beautiful has a book by Tony Award nominee and Academy Award-nominated writer Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni, choreography by Josh Prince and took home two 2014 Tony Awards and the 2015 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. The national tour of an all-new, highly anticipated, live production based on the hit TV show, “The Masked Singer,comes to the Au-ReneTheater on Thursday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m.Presented by the Broward Center and Outback Presents, the performance features host and performer, superstar Natasha Bedingfield, Season Six’s loveable ‘Pepper.’ The favorite characters from the hit Fox TV show are brought to life live on stage with amazing new performances. One local celebrity will perform in a top-secret disguise. The audience will attempt to decipher the clues to guess the identity until the local celebrity is unmasked at the end of the night. The action-packed evening will feature an incredible production of song, dance and craziness in a can’t-miss spectacular live show for audiences of all ages. It’s an experience only The Masked Singercan deliver. Tickets are $39.75-$99.75 with Spirit Club Level tickets at $119.75. VIP packages offering exclusive opportunities are also available.
