Historic Buck House Inn Enters Market For $1.825 Million

The award-winning bed-and-breakfast is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The renowned Buck House Inn has entered the market for $1.825 million. Located at 5860 Bald Mountain Road and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this 7.5-acre, Colonial Revival-style estate is perched along the banks of Bald Mountain Creek immediately adjacent to 750 acres of conservation land of the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains. Marketed exclusively by D’Ann Ford of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty’s Asheville office, the listing details can be viewed here.

Originally built in 1904 for local businessman and North Carolina General Assembly member David Buck and his wife Pearl, the home was sold in the 1960s, restored in the 2000s and opened in 2007 to serve as an inn. After closing for a short time, Sam and Debbie Stebbins purchased and reopened the property in 2012, transforming the Buck House Inn into an award-winning B&B. Featuring five guest rooms plus a third-floor owners’ suite, the home boasts authentic attention to detail. Chestnut walls, ceilings and floors have been carefully restored along with the addition of modern amenities to include new pipes and electrical wiring. Multiple entertaining spaces abound from a spacious dining room to two cozy parlors with fireplaces and the guest rooms each feature a private bath and fireplace. Several structures surrounding the Buck House still stand today including the old general store and post office, apple house and chicken shed as well as stone walls and bridges.

The Bucks nicknamed the home “Dreamdale” and David and Pearl raised their eight children on the property while running a timber company — chestnut trees were cut onsite and milled on the banks of the creek. A hydroelectric generator ran the mill which supplied the family with the first electric lights in the community. The couple would also host colleagues from Washington D.C. and visiting dignitaries who would stay in what is now known as the Dreamdale Room.
