Debevoise Appoints Marilyn Lion as Insurance Group Co-Chair

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP announces that partner Marilyn Lion is named co-chair of the firm’s Insurance Group. Ms. Lion will lead the group alongside co-chair Nicholas Potter. John Vasily, who has served as co-chair for ten years, continues to actively serve clients as a senior partner in the Group.

Debevoise’s global insurance practice brings decades of experience to the most complex insurance industry transactions, high-stakes disputes and challenging regulatory engagements. The team is consistently engaged for major insurance industry mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, financings, reinsurance transactions, investments, restructurings and a host of other transactions. The group is a market leader in the representation of private equity firms active in the insurance market and has particular experience in New York Insurance Law and in matters before the New York State Department of Financial Services.

Ms. Lion’s practice focuses on corporate transactions in the insurance industry, including mergers and acquisitions and financing transactions, as well as insurance and reinsurance regulatory matters. She joined the firm in 2005. Ms. Lion received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2005 and her B.A. summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2001. Prior to law school, she worked as an actuarial associate at AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company.
