Mindgrub Wraps Up 2nd Annual Games for Good with 9.5M Steps, Over $4500 in Donations

Mindgrub’s second annual Games for Good came to a close last week. Mindgrub employees (dubbed Mindgrubbers) competed in fifteen different activities and a step challenge throughout the four-week competition, racking up over $4,500 in donations, taking 9,585,420 steps, and assembling 20 complete Thanksgiving meals for Living Classrooms to give to families in need.

Mindgrub’s Games for Good competition is an annual initiative focused on employee engagement, health and well-being, and giving back. This year, Mindgrubbers were split into four teams. Each one selected a name and a nonprofit organization for which they raised funds:

Using the GivHero mobile app, team members stepped their way towards daily goals, encouraging and motivating one another to get outside and get moving. Teams who reached their daily step goal unlocked donations to their chosen nonprofit. Weekly step challenge winners earned points in the overall Games for Good standings, and the teams earned additional donations depending on their final placement on the leaderboard.

Teams earned additional points by participating in games, which included a mix of activities both on and off Zoom, synchronously and asynchronously. This allowed Mindgrubbers to participate no matter their time zone or level of Zoom fatigue. Some of the most popular activities included themed dress-up days, the return of the Most Embarrassing Childhood photo contest, scavenger hunt bingo, a holiday desk decorating competition, and compliment tag.

“Games for Good is a program that was developed in the work from anywhere environment to provide a way for Mindgrubbers to form and sustain relationships,” said Kim Paradise, Chief of Staff and head Games for Good organizer at Mindgrub. “Relationships are critical not only to effective teams, but also to employees simply enjoying being at work and feeling that they belong.”

In addition, teams participated in Mindgrub’s annual Day of Giving, making monetary or food donations to their local food banks. Mindgrubbers in the Baltimore area had the option to bring their food donations to the office and pack up Thanksgiving meals together. In total, the team assembled 20 complete Thanksgiving meals for Living Classrooms to give to families in the Baltimore area.

In the end, it was the (appropriately named) Winning Team who snagged the Gold Medal, earning a total of $1,500 for their chosen nonprofit, Women’s Housing Coalition, and bringing the total donation amount for Games for Good to $4,500!
