Associated Black Charities (ABC) will host its popular Women on the Move annual fundraiser virtually on Tuesday, December 14th from 6:30 PM through 8:00PM. Diane Bell-McKoy, President and CEO of ABC, will emcee the evening’s conversation. The event will lead off in a one-on-one interview between Ms. Bell-McKoy and Sunny Hostin, a three-time Emmy Award-winner, New York Times best-selling author, and nationally acclaimed media personality. The interview will be followed by insights from a panel of Maryland-based business and philanthropic women leaders.
In alignment with ABC’s core agenda of economic equity in the Maryland workforce for the Black worker, the Women On The Move yearly convening aims to uplift the inherent value of women of color. The chosen topics and discussion boldly address systemic obstacles, while providing pathways and guidance to holistically moving upwards in career and personal outlook. The theme of this year’s Women On The Move is “What’s Next?” with the planned topics to include the “great resignation”, the nuances of remote work/life balance, and the outlook of equity in the career sector.
While developing the concept of “What’s Next?” for Women On The Move 2021, ABC’s CEO Diane BellMcKoy reflected that “so many women are rethinking their priorities in the era of covid-19”. She looks forward to her exclusive interview with Ms. Hostin, and specifically the opportunity to learn from Ms. Hostin’s personal experiences as a successful woman of color in media. Ms. Bell-McKoy, in preparing for the interview, pointed out that “sometimes what comes with success is a lack of understanding from others of one’s humanness, the fact that you too face challenges, maybe fears, concerns.” She hopes the interview will empower listeners to hold space for recognition of how the events of recent years have impacted their whole selves, while not allowing traumas or challenges to diminish their personal sense of value.
The assembled guest panel who will follow Ms Hostin’s interview on the virtual stage represent some of ABC’s philanthropic and corporate community partners. At press time the panel included Janet Currie, President for the Greater Maryland Region Bank of America; Stacey Ullrich of Under Armour and UA Foundation; and Nicole Hanson-Mundell, Executive Director of Out For Justice.
