The Meridian Group Introduces New Technologies to Make Office Life Safer and Easier for Returning Workers

The Meridian Group partners with cove to create a groundbreaking new app for tenants and becomes Washington’s first firm to deploy touchless access control technology from Motorola Solutions’ Openpath

The Meridian Group has partnered with cove to develop a custom app for tenants that makes life simpler, easier and safer back at the office, allowing workers to do everything from entering the parking garage to reserving equipment at the fitness center — all seamlessly from their mobile device.

The Meridian Group, a real estate investment and development firm based in Bethesda, Md., is also partnering with Openpath, a Motorola Solutions company, to become the first real estate portfolio in Washington, DC to deploy Openpath’s touchless access control technology in its buildings.

“We are making a major investment in the future to provide a safer, better experience for our tenants that goes beyond anything they’ve seen before,” said Kyle Maurer, Vice President of The Meridian Group. “We’re adopting the very best technologies first to truly differentiate our buildings and provide the best possible experience for our tenants.

“We want our tenants to be excited about returning to the office and see how much easier things have become and how much more productive they can be here,” Maurer added.

The groundbreaking advances include a new custom app for tenants that serves as a central hub for communication and specialized services. Developed through a partnership with cove, the custom app allows workers to unlock doors, reserve conference rooms and request any AV services they need. Tenants can also send visitor passes to guests, allowing them to seamlessly access the building with a special code.

“The Meridian Group is really helping to define the new standard for office,” said Jeremy Scott, Cofounder and CTO of cove. “Working closely with their Innovation Group, we created next-gen tech to provide a seamless day for tenants, putting control of the office experience entirely in their hands and on their phones. It’s an exciting time for the future of the workplace as a modern resource for employers and employees.”

Through a partnership with Openpath, a Motorola Solutions company, The Meridian Group is also offering a much-improved alternative to the office keycard. Now an employee’s smartphone is their passport to their building. Everything is touchless, secure and simple: An employee only needs to wave their hand to unlock entrances, elevators and their office.

“We’re proud to bring touchless access control and cloud-based safety solutions to The Meridian Group’s properties across Washington, DC,” said James Segil, Vice President, Access Control at Motorola Solutions. “We’re aligned with their vision to redefine commercial real estate with technology that will modernize the tenant experience and create a safer, more secure environment every day.”

The Meridian Group has released a three-minute video(https://vimeo.com/591647227) to highlight the many upgrades to its buildings over the past 18 months. The video, titled “The TMG Experience,” showcases how tenants can now:

  • Swipe themselves into their building with their phone;
  • Register a visitor in advance and send them visitor passes and directions to the building ahead of time;
  • Reserve state-of-the-art conference rooms, event spaces and rooftop terraces, then request the best room layout and any AV services needed;
  • Get building updates, sign up for tenant events and receive exclusive retail offers straight to their phone;
  • Reserve cardio equipment in the fitness center. Through the app, employees can even check how many people are in the fitness center at any time — giving them the freedom to maximize their comfort level.

“We want to be true innovators when it comes to ensuring our buildings provide pristine indoor air quality and the latest in touchless technology,” Maurer said.

These upgrades have earned The Meridian Group numerous accolades, including an unprecedented rating of 99.12% on the Fitwel Viral Response module certification for its buildings. The Certified with Distinction certification, presented by the Center for Active Design (CfAD), demonstrates that Meridian is at the forefront of enhanced indoor environments, top-notch hygiene standards and preparedness plans.

In addition, 1901 L Street, owned by The Meridian Group and the Rockefeller Group, became the first-ever office building in Washington, DC to earn a WELL Building Core and Shell certification. The trophy office building earned the certification by meeting a number of design and operational requirements as well as meeting quality standards for air, water, nourishment, fitness, comfort and mind.
