The Atlanta Braves Foundation Awards $20,000 To Second Helpings Atlanta

Nonprofit Food Rescue Logistics Organization Receives Grant to Continue to Drive Out Hunger

The Atlanta Braves Foundation has awarded Second Helpings Atlanta (SHA) $20,000 to continue reducing hunger and food waste in the metro Atlanta area.  SHA is the city’s only nonprofit organization dedicated to moving fresh, surplus food from grocers, corporate kitchens, restaurants, and stadiums to hunger relief agencies.

“We’re thrilled to continue to be supported by our hometown Atlanta Braves,” said Andrea Jaron, executive director of Second Helpings Atlanta. “This generous donation will help ensure that food insecure families in Atlanta don’t have to choose between buying fresh food and paying a bill.”

The Atlanta Braves Foundation awarded grants to non-profit organizations supporting initiatives under the Braves Care banner of Live, Learn, Play, Serve and Sustain. SHA joins the Atlanta Braves in their effort to build community by providing access and opportunities that improve the well-being of children, families, and communities. So far in 2021, SHA has rescued 2.7 million pounds of healthy, nutritious, surplus food to provide over 2.3 million meals to those in need.

Over the past year, SHA has seen a significant surge in need as more and more Atlanta families experience food insecurity in response to the pandemic. With a community of over 200 volunteers, SHA serves as the link between food donors and partner agencies who feed the hungry every day.

Since 1994, the Atlanta Braves Foundation has provided support and resources to thousands of metro Atlanta-based organizations. Through the generous support of Braves players and staff, sponsors and fans, the Atlanta Braves Foundation is committed to investing in children, families, and communities across Braves Country. Since 2020, the Braves Home Plate Project has invested in food security efforts across Braves Country resulting in more than 3.8 Million meals served.
