Brittney Mills Makes Palmer Trinity School’s Football Team

Palmer Trinity School (PTS) senior, Brittney Mills, has become the first female student to officially make the school’s varsity football team roster. Mills’ position is kicker.

“Brittney is a vital part of our team and handles all our kicking duties. Brittney has respect from everyone. From day one, her work ethic and determination raised the level of how the team competed,” stated Mark Reese, Head Coach.

Earlier this month, Mills played in Palmer Trinity’s winning homecoming game against Palm Glades Academy. On Friday, October 15, Mills also helped PTS beat Westminster in overtime 26-23, with her multiple extra-point kicks.

The PTS football team has never been “closed-off” to female athletes and welcomes a more diverse coed team.

Dave Lanham, Athletic Director said: “Brittney has been a phenomenal addition to the varsity football team. Not only does she bring a fierce, competitive spirit, but also a powerful leg as a kicker and has taken advantage of all the opportunities presented to her in both practices and games. She has worked extremely hard to earn a position as the starting place kicker on the team. Brittney, having the confidence to join our varsity football team, along with the way the team and coaching staff have fully embraced and welcomed her, serves as an excellent reminder of the true community at Palmer Trinity School where each member has an opportunity to succeed at whatever it is they are passionate about.”

When asked what her experience has been on the team, Mills expressed: “It’s been great. All my teammates have been so respectful, loving and sweet. They’ve accepted me with open arms. They’ve made this experience wonderful.”

One of the challenges for Mills is the lack of a women’s locker room so she must change in the bathroom. Her teammates make it a point not to discuss anything game-related in the locker room so that she is never excluded.

Mills also plays on Palmer Trinity’s girls’ soccer team as a goalie. She has been playing soccer for six years.
