Notre Dame Prep Senior Named National Merit Semi-Finalist

Sister Patricia McCarron, SSND, Ph.D., headmistress of Notre Dame Preparatory School, announced today that NDP Senior Rylan Sachs ’22 received National Merit Scholarship Recognition as a National Merit Semi-Finalist.

As a semi-finalist, Rylan is among less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors who will compete for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million.

Rylan is the President of NDP’s Student Council and is a highly-recognized Speech and Debate Team competitor. In addition to being a member of the Mock Trial and Youth in Government clubs, she also plays Varsity Lacrosse for NDP and club ice hockey. Outside of NDP, this lifelong Washington Capitals fan earned an honor many young hockey fans can only dream about: a seat on the National Hockey League’s Youth Advisory Board. This group of 25 student advisors, known as NHL Power Players, hail from across the U.S. and Canada and aim to grow the game’s popularity among younger audiences.

Founded in 1873, Notre Dame Preparatory School is a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school for approximately 800 girls in grades 6-12. The School Sisters of Notre Dame sponsor the school, which is dedicated to educating young women to transform the world.
