Bridge Alliance Education Fund Releases 2021 Diversity Report

Second Annual Diversity Report Measures Progress in Growing DEI Efforts in Democracy Field

The Bridge Alliance Education Fund (BAEF) and Bridge Alliance, a coalition of ~100 organizations working together to promote healthy self-governance, today announced the release of its2021 diversity report. The 2021 diversity report is the BAEF’s second annual report and is one of the Bridge Alliance’s key initiatives to underscore its commitment to support and grow diversity and inclusion across the democracy field.

The BAEF diversity report analyzes data from not only within its organization, but also leadership and constituents throughout the various member organizations across the democracy field. The Bridge Alliance member organizations serve as a microcosm of the thousands of organizations working toward civic engagement, electoral reform and healthy governance.

The report highlights progress made in diversity, equity and inclusion across the democracy field, as well as Bridge Alliance initiatives to help carry out and reach its 2022 DEI goals. The diversity report considers diversity from many standpoints including, race/ethnicity, age, political affiliation and more. This year, the BAEF also introduced a new metric: gender/sex.

“Our goal for the Bridge Alliance members is to represent diverse viewpoints and the diversity report illustrates that we are moving in the right direction, but we still have work to do,” said Debilyn Molineaux, President and CEO of the Bridge Alliance. “Representing diverse viewpoints is not only critical to our organization, but to the democracy field as a whole. The data featured in the diversity report allows us to hold ourselves accountable and better mirror the population of America to help create a thriving, just and healthy democracy.”

“As we work together to fix our broken electoral system and repair our democracy, we often focus on what separates us as a country rather than what unites us as everyday Americans,” said Francis Johnson, president, Take Back Our Republic. “I applaud the Bridge Alliance for its commitment to support and grow greater diversity and inclusion in our field.  Diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are more important now than ever before in our political process to help activate and hear from voices that represent Americans of all backgrounds to preserve our liberty.”

“For us to build a stronger democracy, we must focus on big-D diversity,” said John Gable, CEO and co-founder of AllSides. “That includes diversity of thought across the political spectrum from left to right, so people of all backgrounds and perspectives can foster a more perfect union. I’m pleased that the Bridge Alliance Diversity Report reflects a commitment to that broader understanding of diversity and inclusion.”

Some of the key findings from the diversity report include that there is an opportunity to attract more non-white supporters, younger populations and those who are more religiously affiliated. Additionally, the movement continues to attract a growing number of Republicans, but less unaffiliated voters.
