David Nevins Interviews Jackie Williams, Principal at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute

Jacqueline Williams is the principal of The Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, a position she has held since May 22, 2012. She was selected for the role following a two-year, nationwide search for a principal of the world-renowned STEM magnet school in Baltimore City. Williams is the first African American female principal in Poly’s history.

A lifelong educator, Williams began her career in the Baltimore City Public School System as a mathematics teacher at Herring Run Middle School. Following a ten-year stint at Herring Run, Williams moved on to Poly to teach math, eventually working her way up to become the head of the math department. Her career continued to progress as Williams went on to serve as Poly’s assistant principal before assuming her current role as principal.

Williams is a 1981 graduate of Poly and a first-generation college student, graduating from Towson State University (now Towson University) with both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degree.

Over the past decade, Williams has continued to build upon Poly’s rich legacy and strong tradition of excellence. She prides herself on helping to develop well-rounded students who make a great impact on the world, both socially and professionally.
