David Nevins Interviews David Gibber, General Counsel and SVP, Sinclair Broadcast Group

David Gibber has served as Senior Vice President / General Counsel since April 2019. Prior to that, since joining Sinclair in 2011, he has served as Vice President/Deputy General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel/Director of Legal Services and Legal Counsel. Prior to joining Sinclair, he was an associate at Gordon Feinblatt, LLC in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Gibber received his J.D. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif.. Mr. Gibber also sits on the board of directors of various charitable and community organizations.

Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. is a diversified media company and leading provider of local sports and news. Q1: David, as general counsel and senior vice president at Sinclair Broadcast Group, you have been with the company since 2011 and have been a part of Sinclair’s amazing growth in that period of time culminating with making the Fortune 500 earlier this summer. Talk a little bit about your daily role at Sinclair and the company’s recent growth.

Q2: Many of our viewers may know Sinclair as a media company, but you are much more than that. Sinclair is a diversified media company, a tech company, a sports company and much more. Talk about the intersection of those worlds and how you help navigate various opportunities for Sinclair and its consumers across those various industries.

Q3: Sinclair has made a strategic pivot into sports with your acquisition of 21 regional sports networks, the strategic partnership with Ballys and the gamification of sports for consumers. Talk a little bit about what that integrated landscape will look like for viewers and consumers in the future.

Q4: With more than 180 TV stations in nearly 90 markets around the country, Sinclair is a vital part of the fabric and culture in many local communities as the leading content provider of news and sports. Talk a little bit about the pride you and the entire Sinclair team take in supporting local communities with news and information on a daily basis.

Q5: During the pandemic, Sinclair worked hard to protect its essential workers across the country to help them carry out their important duty of providing news to viewers at your various stations… Tell us about that experience and how it continues today as you work to protect journalists and our free press in being able to hold our elected officials and others responsible as your local news teams cover local government, schools, crime and much more in markets all around the country.

Q6: Share with us some of the exciting technology innovations that Sinclair is leading the way on – such as NEXT GEN TV – to provide vital technology resources to consumers.
