Peter Bosworth, President of Bosworth Properties, Interviews Jason Woody, Executive Director of B’More Clubhouse

Jason Woody is the Executive Director of B’More Clubhouse, where he has served since 2009. He was first introduced to the Clubhouse model when he was hired at Fountain House in New York City in 2006 to help to facilitate their Wellness program. His passion and skill for building community for underrepresented populations is what attracted him to this field and kept him here for the past 15 years. He holds a Masters of Public Administration degree with a focus in Nonprofit Management from the University of Baltimore and Bachelors in Sociology from UMBC. Jason has a variety of other nonprofit experience including youth programs, and founded his own nonprofit organization, Project Team, in 2003. As evidence of his strong knowledge and the excellent reputation of B’More Clubhouse, Jason became part of the Faculty of Clubhouse International in 2017. As a faculty member, Jason is part of teams that travel to Clubhouses around the world to consult with them on the Clubhouse model and assess whether they become fully accredited.

Peter Bosworth, currently an active board member of the B’more Clubhouse, and a former president of the board, found his way to the organization after seeing the impact it had on the community it serves. Peter has had a long standing interest in mental illness, beginning with working as a volunteer at a psychiatric hospital while attending the University of Pennsylvania over 50 years ago. Since discovering B’more Clubhouse operating in the Mt Vernon neighborhood 8 years ago he has become a strong advocate of this unique mental health model. Peter is a retired real estate investor, and lives with his wife on a small island in the Chesapeake Bay.

Interview questions:

Mission | Jason, could you please explain to us the mission of B’more Clubhouse?

Clubhouse International | Jason, could you zoom out a little and talk about the role and origin story of our parent organization Clubhouse International?

Program | Jason, one of the things I find most important about the Clubhouse is that it provides members the opportunity to join a community and regain the momentum of daily life, something we all need, and many of us take for granted. Could you please tell us a little about daily life at B’more, and how its programs and activities impact our members.

Funding | Can you describe how over time our Clubhouse has been funded, and how increased public and governmental interest in mental illness may affect future funding?

Learn More | Jason, if any listener wants to find out more about the Clubhouse, or consider being on our board or donating to us, or maybe becoming an employer of our members, what should they do?
