Citybiz Interview with Mickey Alam Khan, President at Luxury Portfolio International

Mickey Alam Khan is president of Luxury Portfolio International®, the marketing and intelligence arm of the Leading Real Estate Companies of the World®. New York-based, he is also founder/editor in chief of Luxury Daily, the world’s leading luxury business publication, as well as American Marketer, a trends and insights platform for marketers and retailers. Mr. Alam Khan also founded and edited Mobile Marketer and Mobile Commerce Daily, turning both into leading publications in their space before he sold them in 2017. Prior to that, he was editor of eMarketer and DM News. He was also correspondent on Advertising Age from 1993 to 1998.

Alam Khan, one of the world’s top experts in the luxury arena, engages regularly with Luxury Portfolio International’s Member companies, furthering the organization’s global growth by expanding an already robust suite of offerings, while continuing his role as a luxury thought leader, authoring position papers and opinions as to how the world of global luxury real estate and luxury brands intersect.

Q1: Introduction: Mickey, it’s wonderful to meet you. If you could, please give us an introduction to Luxury Portfolio International.

Q2: Tell me about the importance/advantages—and value—of being a part of a member-centric network of independent residential real estate brokerages such as Luxury Portfolio International. What are the advantages to the members, and all the more important, what are the advantages to each member’s top agents, especially in such an uber-competitive environment?

Q3: You joined LPI as President just over one year ago (congrats). Tell us how you’ve focused on growing the membership globally and furthering LPI’s value proposition?

Q4: What are the advantages of using a locally owned or regional brokerage, when you couple them with a global network?

Q5: LPI releases very insightful and robust reports about the luxury real estate market—as well as an incredible magazine. Tell about these, and how they help set LPI apart from other networks.

Q6: And speaking of the reports, your latest iteration, titled “Finances of the Luxury Home Buyer,” features some interesting data, such as the fact that There is a 94% probability that a luxury home buyer is already a luxury homeowner. Can you share some of your insights about the report?(Mickey will share top line items, but let’s not get too deep into the specifics)

Q7: When you joined LPI, the world was very much (and still is) in the throes of the pandemic. How have you seen the luxury market fare globally? What has surprised you? Are there any trends you believe will remain moving forward?
