Maryland Multi-Housing Association Appoints Chinelo Osakwe as Government and Community Affairs Manager

The Maryland Multi-Housing Association (MMHA) is pleased to announce the hiring of Chinelo J. Osakwe as government and community affairs manager. With an extensive background working in legislation and advocacy, Osakwe’s knowledge and experience will reinforce the association’s government and community outreach efforts.

In her role as government and community affairs manager, Osakwe will track and communicate local legislation and monitor county council meetings. As a part of her community outreach duties, she will manage MMHA’s social channels and plan the association’s annual philanthropic events. Other tasks include planning Regional Property Manager Roundtables, meeting with community organizations to raise awareness about MMHA, and participating in coalition groups such as Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition’s property management committee and the Baltimore Metropolitan Council’s housing committee.

Prior to joining the MMHA, Osakwe worked as a legislative assistant at Becker and Poliakoff P.A., located in Tallahassee, Florida, where she conducted research on a variety of legislative issues pertaining to education policy and coordinated legislative meetings on behalf of several government consultants. She then moved on to work at the Florida Homebuilders Association, also in Tallahassee, where she was responsible for overseeing relevant bills and providing timely updates for more than 8,000 members. Osakwe also managed scheduling for the association’s CEO and senior legislative director, arranging meetings with legislators on their behalf.

Osakwe graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science; Environment and Society and a master’s degree in Applied American Politics and Policy. She worked as a research assistant during her time there, conducting research on approximately 300 charter schools and compiling findings for the department of political science. Osakwe is a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., an international organization dedicated to improving lives through community service, civil, and social action.
