David Nevins Interviews Jay Bronner, Founder & CEO of American Orthopedic Partners (AOP)

As CEO and Founder of AOP, Jay drives a physician-centric approach to leading the organization in its pursuit of bringing transformative clinical innovation to orthopedic practice. He passionately believes that under the right structure and with the right culture, physicians with an aligned vision of excellence deliver greater clinical value to the patients they serve.

Jay has over 35 years of experience in healthcare leadership, clinical radiology, and medical practice business development. He joined AOP from Radiology Partners, where he was President and Chief Medical Officer. His responsibilities included partnership growth and clinical innovation, including developing a culture of physician engagement that led to exceptional adoption of evidence-based practices. Under his leadership, the organization achieved exemplary practice status from CMS.

Prior to these roles, Jay was CEO of Radiology Imaging Consultants (RIC) for over 20 years, which grew to be one of the country’s ten largest hospital-based radiology practices during his tenure. With a focus on clinical innovation, RIC was the first radiology group in the Midwest to offer in-house 24-hour radiology services to hospitals. This clinical practice, which enabled more informed and timely clinical decisions, has become the gold standard in U.S. hospitals.

Jay also served as CEO for Team Radiology at Team Health, a leading multispecialty practice. During his time there, he gained a deeper understanding of contract management and learned the advantages that scale can bring to medical practice.

Jay earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. In 2019, he won The Radiology Business Journal Imaging Innovation Award for his leadership role in the development of a game-changing natural language processing tool that facilitates radiologists’ ability to share and adopt best practices.
